since i purchased a desktop with vista i am unable to contact a freind of mine in the usa who is on windows xp there used to be a grey face when he was off line and a smilling face when online but that isn't there any more, is vista and xp not compatable?

its all about yahoo messanger and whether you friend is online or not.
Its not the operating systems.

i am currently using vista and have not had any compatibility problems with it...it is perhaps whatever communication you are trying to use like you yahoo messenger or something like that. how are you trying to communicate?

Doesn't have to do with the operating system. Is whatever you're using to contact him and vice versa.
