The best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods
Organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio
Have citizan meetings
Get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,

If you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,

POSITIVE ACTIONS)
Classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash
70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .
And it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground

And it is the easiest to take care of
o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid
If you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell
the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull black soil for the garden of flower pots .
If you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,
Add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist
This rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full

If you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes
Reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
The protection of existing forrests.
Stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
Education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
Education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´population
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
More environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
More dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
Alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

Every citizen can contribute to help fight global warming, if there is a will. These are the things we all can do.
1) Remember three Rs. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Reduce means do not waste, use any thing entirely.
Reuse means if something can be used again by washing it or by giving some simple treatment, then do it and use it again.
Rcycle- we all know what does it mean but we don't do, just we all talk. Recycle everything possible, even junk mail or used envelop.
2) Conserve energy - that means any form of energy. Here are few as examples, but list of forms of enegy could be very long. Electricity, Fuel (Natural gas, Gasoline, Coal, Wood, Oil, etc)
Just by following these two sinple things, you can really make a diference. Think everyone is doing this. Then there will be less use of things, less production required because there is no or very little waste. Due to less production, less emission and polution. Industrial processes are one of the major sources of Globla Warming.
By reducing waste of energy, we use less gas, (make small trip with bicycle or walk). Less gasoline use result in less process at refinaries and less automobil emmision. Less electricity use means less production of electricity. This results in less heat generation due to burning of coal or oil or gasoline.
These all expainations can go on and on. But I don't want to go in that detail. People know what I am talking about.
3) We can educate out kids and our community to do this.
4) Also we can make our elected officials to make laws that help reduce green house gases and help ease global warming.

Well if you are a liberal then you don't care if what you are doing actually helps or just makes Gore rich so just give all your money to Gore. He will lie and tell you you are doing something good any you will really feel better won't you. However, nothing will change because man didn't cause it in the first place. On second thought just give my 50% of all the money you have and will earn in the future. I'll then lie to you and tell you that you are doing a great job fighting global warming. Then when the cycle changes you can give me more money to fight global cooling.

The answer above from dpj5 about stop doing everything is not true but probably one of the reasons why so many people are afraid to accept man made global warming as true. There are plenty of things you can start doing today that will help. I'll add a link below instead of list it all here.

However, it's true that the techniques and our societies are not yet fully prepared and ready for a full switch to a carbon neutral living but I believe that transformation will come eventually.

Part of the solution starts at home. Here is a list of things I do. Lower the energy from your refrigerator. Turn down your hot water heater. Do not leave lights in other rooms that are not being used. Do not use two or more appliances at the same time unless necessary. Use florescent light bulbs instead of incandescent light bulbs. If you are a home owner consider having tour home insulated. When cooking consider making casseroles since they only can heated up again and save a lot of energy.Decaying plant matter produces methane a gas which adds more to global warming than carbon dioxide. Ask your city or county government what measures can be taken to eliminate the release of methane at waste disposal sites. This would entail separation of plant waste from non plant waste. Then plant waste could be treated to control the emission of methane. Be sure to separate plant garbage from other trash at home when it is feasible for local government to treat plant waste for methane. Use renewable sources of energy. If you are considering buying a new car think about purchasing a hybrid. There are other ways of saving energy. Use your imagination when thinking about using energy wisely.I bet there are ways to control energy use that we have not even thought about. If we take responsibility for our energy consumption this will be a big step in fighting global warming.

You can recycle, sign petitions, do environmental projects in your community, clean up trash, use non-harmful household cleaners such as baking soda and vinegar combined, plant trees, join up with other global warming fighters to come up with ideas to help fight back, dispose of trash safely, etc.

There are thousands of ways to fight global warming. Those are just a few.

I am glad that you have asked this question because like you I am also bothered about the future of the only known living planet in the Universe.

There are many ways in which an individual can help this Globe from Heating Up:

*Raise your voice. We need new laws that will steer our nation toward the most important solutions to global warming -- cleaner cars and cleaner power plants. Send a message to your elected officials, letting them know that you will hold them accountable for what they do -- or fail to do -- about global warming.
*Choose an efficient vehicle. A car that gets 20 miles per gallon will emit about 50 tons of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. A car getting 40 mpg will emit half that much. When buying your next car, pick the least-polluting, most efficient vehicle that meets your needs. Maybe it's an innovative hybrid that combines a gasoline engine with electric motors (and never needs to be plugged in). Or maybe it's a wagon instead of an SUV. And over the average lifetime of an American car, a 40-mpg car will save roughly $3,000 in fuel costs compared with a 20-mpg car, so compare fuel economy performance before you buy.
*Drive smart. Get your engine tuned up and keep your tires inflated -- both help fuel efficiency. If all Americans kept their tires properly inflated (and a government study shows that many don't), gasoline use nationwide would come down 2 percent. A tune-up could boost your miles per gallon anywhere from 4 to 40 percent; a new air filter could get you 10 percent more miles per gallon.
*Drive less. When possible, choose alternatives to driving (public transit, biking, walking, carpooling), and bundle your errands together so you'll make fewer trips.
*Buy energy-efficient appliances. Use your consumer power when buying appliances by shopping for energy-efficient models. You may spend a little more up front, but you'll save a lot on electricity, and you'll reduce pollution produced by power plants. Look for the Energy Star label, which identifies the most efficient appliances. You can also use the Energy Guide labels to compare the efficiency of specific models.
Remember that refrigerators consume the most electricity in the home. Today's refrigerators consume less than one-fourth the energy of models built 30 years ago, so an upgrade could mean huge energy savings for your household
*Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. While compact fluorescents are initially more expensive than the incandescent bulbs most people use, they last 10 times as long. What's more, a compact fluorescent will lower your energy bills by about $15 a year, and by more than $60 during its life. It will also keep half a ton of carbon dioxide out of the air.
*Weatherize your home or apartment. For a very small investment, you can cut your heating and cooling expenses and reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Use weather-stripping to seal drafts around windows and doors. If a draft comes through electrical outlets or switches on outside walls, install foam draft blockers behind the cover plates. Use covers (inside or outside) on air conditioners during cold months.
And make sure your home has adequate insulation. Many older homes don't have enough, especially in the attic. You can check the insulation yourself or have it done as part of an energy audit, provided by many utility companies. Call your company to see if it offers this service.
*Choose renewable energy. If you live in a state where you can choose your electricity supplier, pick a company that generates at least half its power from wind, solar energy and other clean sources. Even if you don't have the option to select a supplier, you may still be able to support renewable energy through an option on your electricity bill.
*Buy clean energy certificates. Another way to help spur the renewable energy market and cut global warming pollution is to buy "wind certificates" or "green tags," which represent clean power you can add to the nation's energy grid in place of electricity from fossil fuels. And here's an innovation that's catching on: calculate the global warming pollution associated with your everyday activities, then buy enough certificates to offset them and become "climate neutral."

These are some of the ways in which you can save energy ... and, with it, save this world!

I MEAN, A LOT OF THINGS CAN BE DONE.
RIDE YOUR BIKE MORE, AND WALK MORE TOO. [SIMPLE THINGS: LIKE TO THE PARK OR LIBRARY]
REUSE MANY THINGS SO THE FACTORIES DONT HAVE TO MAKE MORE AND POLLUTE THE AIR.
YOU CAN WATER YOUR TREES BECAUSE THEY SUCK IN THE EXTRA CO2 THAT CAUSE THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT AND THEY GIVE US AIR.
OTHER TIPS....
