There are a number of possible causes:
+ idiopathic epilepsy (unknown cause) - usually begins randomly in life
+ poisoning - can be a symptom, usually curable once the poisoning has been treated
+ born epileptic - brain imbalance
+ severe hypoglycaemia (in diabetics)
+ other severe illnesses that may result in fitting
+ brain injur
The most common cause of seizuring is 'idiopathic epilepsy' - although this mean unknown cause, it's usually something the dog is born with that only becomes symptomatic in later life, perhaps due to environmental factors or age.

I have a dog who has seizures because he is epileptic- he was just born with it, but some dogs will have injuries that cause them so if you have a dog that's doing it and you don't know why- take him to the vet immediatly for testing!!!

some smaller dogs get seizures because the breeder keeps trying to breed them smaller and smaller to the point where there brain is too large for there head which causes seizures
