When your baby turned 1, did their doctor say to start giving them 2% milk or whole/D milk?

My mom said that she gave me and my sister 2% when we turned one. But I was sure it was whole milk so I just wanted to see what all you folks know about the whole milk deal.
My son will be turning one August 8th!

Whole milk until age 2. After that 2% is reccommended to help prevent childhood obesity. Whole milk and 2% have the same amount of calcium and vitamins per serving. The only difference is in the amount of fat and calories.

The current general recommendation is to give whole milk to babies between 1 and 2 years old. It has been shown in studies that the extra fat content in whole milk is important to the brain development of children in that age bracket. After their second birthday then you can begin to give him whatever the rest of the family drinks.

Our pediatrician advised us to have our son drink whole milk until age 3 because the fats were needed for his growth. Are you second guessing your pediatrician? It NEVER hurts to call around to other places to see what they suggest!!!
