chili in its original recipe might be called a chowder. remember chili is what it says chili from peppers not meat or beans. chili con carne is with meat. never put beans in a chili maybe on the side but not mixed together.

Chili is a spice that can be used to flavour any dish, so it can be used in soups, chowders, stews, casseroles etc.

I think it's neither... chowders and soups are liquid based. Chili is meat or veggie based.

Whatever you want it to be. I make mine fairly thin so it's more akin to a soup, I don't care what you call it.
