His guilty plea to drug charges are withdrawn if he completes his drug treatment program.

Why doesn't every other person ever convicted of drug or alcohol -related charges get the same deal?

Gore was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana and a traffic infraction.

Often with little to no prior convictions to drug possession and use, plea agreements are wrangled for treatment. Treating a drug addict is cheaper on the state than housing a felon. It is better for 'society' if Gore gets himself clean and pays taxes than sits costing taxpayers in prison under sentencing guidelines. I would not say that this is so much special treatment as trying alternative options.

As far as why doesn't every one else get similar deals, I am not sure that we hear about all the plea agreements that do go on in court rooms. Some people go in and just plead guilty and others argue until they have been convicted thinking they can just get out of it (SEE PARIS HILTON). Lately in the news, celebrities have been being busted more often and more publicly than ever before. Nicole Richie changed her tune and pled guilty and is just going to go do her time to get on with her life. I guess its whatever the lawyer your paying can accomplish on your behalf prior to sentencing.

Good question by the way!

Wow, what are you a Gore basher? Who died and made you God. Judging is only for God not you, not anyone else. What are you jealous? People with money can buy their way out, ask O.J. He can tell you all about it!
