....and the check wasn't signed? Would you send it back with a thank you note? Would you just tear it up and still send a thank you note? Would you call them and ask what they want you to do?

Chances are, if you sign the back of it and deposit it with all the others, the bank will honor it (automated systems and all)and you won't need to do anything. If the bank refuses it, then talk to the giver and explain they forgot to sign it, and ask what would they would like you to do with it.

Whatever you do, make SURE you send a thank you note. I attended a wedding on June 2nd for a pretty close friend, and I have yet to receive a thank you note. I'm just a little bitter, really.

Tearing it up would be a bad option, you definitely have to talk to them... Some people monitor their bank accounts like hawks, and they'd notice you hadn't cashed the check, and might be a bit offended.

Definitely call them. I am sure it was an oversight and they will wonder if it is never cashed.

One note to waterskater, brides and grooms have up to 1 year to send thank you notes, so if your friend just got married in June relax, give them some more time. I think you are over reacting.

Usually I would say let it go, but it's a check, so if they see you don't cash it, they're going to probably ask you why, so send them a thank you note, and follow up with a phone call thanking them for their thoughtfulness, but you'd noticed it wasn't signed. Would they like it returned, or what would they like you to do?

I would write a short thank you note give a couple of days to get there. Call them and explain that when you went to deposit it, the teller pointed out it was not signed and ask if they would like for you to return it to them.

If you tear it up and don't tell them, that's going to throw off their accounting badly. Call them and let them know what happened. They'll either ask you to destroy it and send a new check, or they'll arrange to sign it.

I would certainly want to know if I'd made a goof like that!

Call them because they are going to write it in their checkbook and after a month with the money still in their account they will more then likely call you and say did you never get our card? Its an honest mistake that will not be a big deal.

You need to call them. If you just thank them and don't cash the check they'll wonder what happened. It's a bit akward but not horrible.

i would say to call them and just say hi you attended our wedding a while back, and as i was goign through everything to write thank you notes, i came across your check and it wasnt signed i was just wondering what i should do. i am grateful for your gift, but honestly unsure of what to do.
iam sure they wil lnot be offended. i am actually pretty sure they will just laugh at themselves, for their silly mistakes. nobody is perfect.

congratulations also!!
