I don't know about anyone else. But I have been following Tony since his USAC days. I have watched him every year when he drives in the Chili Bowl, and got to see him win there. I have met him, if only briefly, and have seen him around the track. He is a very personal guy. He is funny. And very giving. Thou he does have some less then desirable traits, his anger issues. Overall he is a nice guy. Anyone that has seen him in the past before he became a big name will know that he worked his way up, literally, from nothing. Another reason is that he has passion. And without that I do believe you would not make a good driver, and he is, he has been successful in every type of car he has driven.

And you talk like he is the only one who has done anything bad. Take a look at there. At least his team does not get caught cheating. Or him and his team are not out there cheating around on ther girlfriends/spouses. So maybe you should look at some of the other teams/drivers before holding Tony up as the target.

No! He does *good* things for NASCAR. He keeps it accountable by speaking out, he is a counterpoint to the new breed of polished and mealy-mouthed drivers whose every word requires a damn focus group, he shows that fuel-tire strategy isn't all that's needed to win a race, and lest we forget, he's an awesome driver! He gave NASCAR the fence climb, proof that good drivers can still come in from open wheel, and now, "Here, kitty, kitty." Like Darrell Waltrip, his ability is as big as his mouth, and he'll probably become a beloved icon and respected commentator when he's ready to come out of the car like DW. Plus he's really cute. That's why.

What "BAD" things has he done lately? He said a bad word... he has held NASCAR accountable by calling them out on their debris cautions (Notice how few there are now, and they always show the debris).

The man voices his opinion, is this still a free country that allows him to do so?

He has so many fans because he is possibly the best pure driver to ever grace NASCAR with his presence. And he isn't afraid to say what is on his mind. I am glad he is not another cookie cutter driver.

Thanks for the win Smoke.

Because fans love them for who they are not what they do. Look at baseball and football. alot of bad boys there too.. but do the fans care? nope most even have picked them cause they are bad boy
and some Tony fans lets be real.. love the bad boy image as they feel it is going against some unrealistic stupid rules. Maybe sad but true.

Alot of people like him cuz he "tells it like it is." Some people like him because they think he is the "bad boy" of NASCAR. Some people root for him for the simple reason that he wins. I'm sure there are many more

Maybe NASCAR has done too many bad things to itself. Like sell its soul to Madison Avenue. As a Hoosier, I fully appreciate Tony's fire. He is the embodiment of what a true Hoosier is- passionate about winning, especially at Indy. I honestly can't stand how NASCAR has tried to sanitize the sport to keep it more "marketable" and "fan friendly." In my opinion, if you need a bunch of clean cut pretty boys to attract your attention, you're not a real fan.

Smoke's dedication of his victory to his fans was the best part of the post-race interview! Thanks Tony!

Uh, that first post makes no sense. "Look at football and baseball players, they love them for who they are and not for what they do?" That is bullshit! No matter how badass a player thinks he is, if he doesn't bring the goods (i.e. Championships), people will have no use for him. I LOVE Tony Stewart, true he may have a "bad boy" image, but you know what else he has? WINS! CHAMPIONSHIPS!! He talks AND backs it up, that's what's most important. To me, anyway.

That's my 2 for 2.

You had the answer to your question right there on the link you posted.
Read this, it was taken from the article on your link:

In truth, they wouldn't have it any other way. He neither. They don't just see themselves in him, in his brash, kick *** ways; he sees himself in them, the loyalty, realness and salt of the earth values that come from growing up hard in Southern Indiana.

I believe that pretty much sums it up!!!!

WAY TO SMOKE EM TONY !!!!!!!!!!!

Loyal to the fan drivers rule!!!
