It all depends on what's right for you. I personally would go with blu-ray because more studios support it than HD-DVD.
Blu-ray:
Pros:
--Stores much more information than HD-DVD. (200GB is being made in the future, 50GB is the highest one currently available).
--More movie studios support Blu-ray at a ratio of 3:1 and Blockbuster rents out Blu-ray's exclusively.
--The only format used for true-hd gaming and that is the Playstation 3.
--Blu-ray's are harder to get scratched than HD-DVD's
Cons:
--Players are more expensive than HD-DVD players. The cheapest Blu-ray player currently is the Sony Playstation 3. It is $500. You can get a regular remote control if you don't want to use the game controller and you don't have to use that for gaming.
--Region locks (i.e. Japanese Blu-ray's won't play in U.S. Blu-ray players-only U.S. Blu-ray's play in U.S. Blu-ray players.
--Blu-ray's cost more than HD-DVD's (New Releases compared)
HD-DVD:
Pros:
--Players are cheaper than Blu-ray's. The cheapest HD-DVD player you can get is around $300.
--No region locks! Any HD-DVD will play in any HD-DVD player regardless of where the movie was produced and where the player was bought from! :)
--HD-DVD's are cheaper than Blu-ray's (again, new releases compared)
--Hybrid DVD/HD-DVD's-One side is HD-DVD and the other side is DVD. Very useful if you want to play your movies in "DVD" only players such as at other people's houses or your portable.
Cons:
--Not much support for HD-DVD
--The capacity of the HD-DVD's are lower than what Blu-ray's are capable of.
--HD-DVD's are easier to get scratched than Blu-ray's.
Hope this helps you make the right decision. Overall, I'd get Blu-ray if you don't care about region locks and the cost of Blu-ray players and discs plus that more stuidos support Blu-ray.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD both produce an awesome picture, but Blu-Ray can hold way more data than a HD-DVD. Blu-Ray is more popular right now because it is used to make all Playstation 3 games and PS3 users are more likely to buy Blu-Ray DVD's.

Blu-Ray is more expensive, but each disk holds more data. Go ahead and support Blu-Ray: More buyers means lower prices, and the larger capacity will serve your data needs further into the future.
