There are three main aspects of this problem, namely storing the water, heating the water, and dispensing the water. Other design considerations will be weight, sturdiness, and performance. One possible method you could look at is having two large water reservoirs that you can raise and lower connected by metal piping. Fill one reservoir with cold water, raise it up higher than the other reservoir, meter the flow through the piping, have a copper coil heat transfer line in your campfire, and have the outlet dump into the "hot" reservoir. When it's full lift it up so that gravity will dispense it through some sort of metering valve. You can also design solar collectors to heat the water (mirrors that concentrate the sun's rays), resistive heater coils powered by a battery, you could even use whatever vehicle you have available for the hot water in the radiator as a heat transfer fluid! You can get cheap plastic jugs easily enough in any size, and polypropolene bags that will collapse as the water drains out. So storing the water isn't tough. And if you didn't want to buy a valve for the shower head you could simply poke a bunch of holes in a large diameter pipe. There are millions of ways to do this, I think making the heat transfer system will be your biggest challenge. Remember to use what you have handy, whether it's sunlight, the camp fire, or whatever!

Solar showers, a black waterbag with a nozzle at the bottom or a footpump to push the water up to an overhead sprinkler, work quite well. Most systems that involve heating water over a fire are unsafe. The easier they are to use, the more dangerous they are.
If you use propane fuel in your camp, you could consider adapting a home-style tankless water heater. Expensive, but safe.
