I also had an extremely heavy and painful period around 3 weeks after my last baby was born. I'm sure it's quite normal but if your at all worried, contact your midwife, she'll be able to reassure you!
Congrats on your new baby!

I would say it is not a period, but rather post pregnancy bleeding. I agree that really heavy bleeding can mean you have an infection or that something else is wrong. I would call my doctor just in case. Light to moderate bleeding is normal I bled after my 1st was born for 4 weeks, my sister still had slight bleeding at her 6 week visit. This is normal but it is how heavy I would worry about.

ever since I gave birth to my 2nd child I've had really heavy periods for the first two days then really light for the last 3, I suppose that when you have a baby it changes you internally for much longer than the pregnancy, my daughters now 5 and I just have to accept that my periods will be like this forever!
Perhaps your period is particularly heavy because its the first one since you had the baby, though you should prepare yourself for different periods from now on.

Most likely it's absolutely normal.
I have heard a LOT of people with C-sections experience this, and it happened to me about two weeks after my oldest was born. I was having incontinence issues still and was wearing depends. I laid down for a quick nap and 30 minutes later I woke up, had to pee, and couldn't get the damn thing off because I bled so heavily it just about glued the depends to my body!
The Obstetricians really should warn you about these things, don't you think? You should call and ask about it just in case, though.

I THINK I heard that if you are going through more than 2 pads in an hour that you should go to the doctor. I had really heavy periods after the births of my babes also, but you should definately keep an eye on it! Good luck!

The bleeding you have immediately after you have your baby is heavy, but 3 weeks later you shouldn't be bleeding that heavily. I think you should get medical advice because you have just had a major operation and anything unexpected should be looked into.
Maybe it's nothing, but better to be safe than sorry.

Totally normal. Mine after my daughter (also a c-section) was soooo bad! REALLY heavy, and lots of blood. It lasted about 2 weeks too. I thought for sure that something was wrong, but my doc told me that its ok. Every month it got less and less and now its back to normal.

It's still part of the postpartum bleeding after having a baby. You can bleed upto 6 weeks. I bled for a few weeks, it started to get lighter, then it got heavier again for another couple of weeks.
