To make a good living, you have to get educated in something that's technical. This way, you will have knowledge and skills that exceed most people on the planet!!! Consider degrees related to computers, engineering, and science.
I often tell kids to major in information management and take business course as electives. Information management involves working with computers but doesn't require hard core programming. You will also learn problem solving and how to think logically.
Once you obtain a degree, invest a few years in working for private companies, preferably a small one. You may find yourself working a lot but the goal is to learn as much as possible in a short amount of time.
Once you have a few years of experience, consider finding a gig with the government, a non-profit, or a large corporation. They will pay you handsomely for your experience without working you to the ground. Government jobs are great because of the job security and all of those holidays! Thus, you will be making a lot of money while still having some free time.
