Anytime really-in season tends to make surgery harder though. And dont make the mistake we made-our cat has just had 3 kittens-we thought she was safe straight away...but theyre so sweet!!!

Whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about. A cat will go in and out of season every two weeks.

The vets can give a shot to get them out of season and do the spaying that way. OR they can spay the cat as is, but it's a lot more dangerous.

Make an appointment with the vets and if she's still in season, call to reschedule the appointment for the spaying. You'll be able to get her in during one of those few days she's not calling.

I think someone can't be bothered to spay your cat! I've had five queens neutered and have never heard such rubbish! I know most vets like the cat to have had a season finished so it doesn't upset the hormones too much but wait two months someone is having a giraffe. Your cat will never be spayed if you follow that advice. Go to a vet. Don't believe everything you get told because there will a picture of you under gullible in the dictionary!

The only time a cat can't be spayed is before it reaches between 4 and six months (6 months is better as they have then more or less finished developing there parts) and if its pregnant or nursing. Should be fine otherwise. Call ur vet for advise. Or u could just put ur cat in a cattery while its in season and then just take it straight to the vet after that.

Whoever told you that is wrong.

You can have a cat spayed from an early age, and there is no need whatsoever for her to have a season at all.

Ring the vet and make an appointment, before the cat becomes pregnant!

She can be spayed as early as four months, though many vets want to wait until 6 months. As soon as she stops 'calling' in season, get her to the vet. Or she'll just keep right on cycling!

I don't think this is true, Minx was spayed on Friday and she was in season, they spayed her when they did even though she still had milk from her pregnancy because she was in heat and the vets were worried about her having another preganncy so close to the other one (which would have been her third litter - she had one before I got her and then got pregnant without me realising it)

Hope this helps.

No you do not have to wait, cats can be spayed when they are young. At our local humane society kittens are spayed and neutered as young as two months (most vets will wait until they are a little older) and the Moms are spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned.

Hi Hun, i don't think it's a long as 2 months, but maybe 1 month. Reason is they can't perform the operation whilst she is in season or just coming out of season because the cervix is so full of blood that she could bleed to death. That's what my vet told me. Best wait until she is well clear. All the best :)

Cats are induced ovulators, which means they don't stop going into heat until they are bred and become pregnant. Cats can be spayed while in heat, although it tends to cost more due to the surgery being more complex. Typically it's only about $30-$50 more.

She can be spayed when she is six months old. That is the only rule of thumb for spaying/neutering animals here. Her season shouldn't be a consideration in the spaying.
