the man dies and his son is taken to hospital. when he gets the the surgeon says "I can't operate on this boy, he is my son!" - how is this possible?

I don't know how it is possible.
I mean, wouldn't you operate on your own son to save his life if you were his mother?
(I know I am reading too much into it, but what else can you do when a half a dozen people have already given the same answer.)
