I don't know about you but I have a favorite driver, not a favorite manufacture, I mean that kind of takes the fun out of it if you say oh well my driver didn't win but another chevy won so I'm happy!!! I mean it's a little more fun when your one driver wins compared to 1 of 15 or 20 drivers driving a specific make of car wins!!! Let me guess you were an Earnhardt fan also right!!!

Granted, many years ago I would pull strictly for Ford teams.
Then after several fatal accidents involving spectators the factories succumbed to pressure from the government and abandoned the sport.
After a few years had passed, Chevy began to surreptitiously support some teams. Others followed and eventually and openly began to support teams. However, the wars between the manufacturers led to a crackdown by NASCAR and again they abandoned the sport.
Enter the first major influx of non-automotive sponsors.
Shortly thereafter, I bought my first car. An MG.
Every car I have owned since had a foreign nameplate because I refuse to support the UAW and I feel no loyalty to manufacturers who would so easily walk-away from my favorite sport, not once but twice.
I still had favorite drivers, though.
One was Earnhardt. Let's see, he drove Dodges, Chevys, Fords, Buicks, Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs during his career, so apparently even a real race driver doesn't need to be brand loyal when it comes to cars.
By the way, one can be brand loyal and not be a race fan but one cannot have a favorite driver without being a race fan.
I still pull for and against drivers and the car has no bearing either way.
It’s very rare for a driver to stick with one manufacturer for an entire career.
Even Gordon began his NASCAR career as a Ford developmental driver in Busch. He walked away and thus began the first smattering of boos. As fans got to know him better, the boos grew exponentially, across the board. I know a lot of Chevy fans that don’t like Gordon and will pull for a Ford, if it can beat him.

What are you talking about? I have been a fan of racing since the 50's. I would buy a stock car magazine every so often so I could see what was going on back then down south.
I look at what the driver does and acts on the track and off.
I was not a real big fan of Dale Sr. until he slowed down one race at the half way point to let Dave Marcus get the Gator Aid half way 10,000 dollar bonus and then past him and won the race. There was more than Chevy or Ford Pontiac and Dodge there it was a persons.
you have a different opinion than I do and probably most folks do but do your self a favor and keep that warped feeling to your self. I think you pushed the wrong button in here.

Have never rooted for a manufacturer or picked a driver/team because they used a particular manufacturer's car. I was unaware that there is a rule about this. I don't drive a car by any of the manufacturer's in the series.
Who died and left you in charge of determining who real racing fans are? I've been attending and watching NASCAR races for over 40 years. I think I'm a real fan.

I root for the car make I like first and foremost, then choose a favorite driver from that stable. For a while when Buddy Arrington was the only Mopar driver in the field, it was slim pickings!

There are exception to every rule.
I am one of the most die-hard FORD fans out there. I owned 3 Ford trucks, and a mustang, my off-road buggy is a VW, but that's because it HAS to be, I made my employer buy me a Ford Semi, we run Ford stock cars in 2 different classes, we are the ONLY Ford stock cars in those classes, and we only buy Ford vehicles.
That being said, Two of my favorites are Bill Elliott and Mark Martin. I will always cheer for any Ford near the front, but anytime either of those 2 drivers get anwhere near the front, I'll root for them over the Fords. I cheered for Bill when he drove for Evernham, and I still root for Mark, even though he drives for DEI. Mark is just 100% CLASS, and Bill is who got Ford back to where they are now.

Me personally, I have my favorite drivers!
And yes, I have more than one favorite driver..starting with
my #1 Junior, Smoke, Gordon, Harvick and so on.......
Which happen to drive my favorite make of car. CHEVY !
My favorites drive on different Chevy teams. Therefore,
Chevy teams are my favorite.
However, There are a lot of drivers that are on my list of favorites that drive a different make of car.
Like Mark Martin until now did not drive Chevy!
Dale Jarret
Matt Kenseth
Kasey Kahne among others ....I have my #1 favorite driver I cheer him on and hope he wins
That's Dale,Jr. and always will be and if he drives a VW on track, I'll support him. But I want to see my other favorites do well too. And I'll cheer for them
I pick my favorite drivers based on individual himself..not what he drives or who he drives for or who his team mates are.
I guess I'm one of the ones you put in the category of
"not being a real race fan" but you see, I don't understand that. You say "race fan" . Well I'm certainly a fan of "racing" and I have my favorite drivers that may drive my favorite make of car (CHEVY) or may not that make up this great sport of RACING.
RACE FANS RULE !!!!!!!
Go>>>Jr.!

Cause when I was growing up my dad did not pull for the manufacture, he pulled for the driver. At that time there were alot more manufactures in the sport then there is now days. Any ways if you go to a local track, they drive anything they can. Just like I like Kasey, but I do not like his owner, Ray. But I am not going to hold Kasey accountable for what Ray does.

who gives a crap about the manufacturer....if the driver has talent you support them...no matter what type of car they drive
Just because you support more than one driver and they are all in different car doesnt make a bad race fan!!!!
