Hey I don't know if you're supposed to do push ups everyday. I heard you should usually exercise the same muscle group every other day when doing severe exercises, but push ups aren't really weight lifting. They are not really rigorous and just requires body lifting. It's like resistance training so how long does the body need to rest after doing push ups?

the body adapts to the load used during the push-up rather quickly. if the person is symmetrical the load is usually about 60% of the users total bodyweight. this is not much of a load for anyone that has been regular performing them and especially for those that participate in resistance training. since the intensity of the exercise is not easily increased the body adapts to this exercise very easily.

technically push-ups are not considered resistance training since the load can not be accurately measure, quantified or increased. after several months you can do them daily as they will no longer cause any trauma to skeletal muscle.

Well, this depends on your end goal. If its just to stay lean, then yes. If its to get big, then no The rule of thumb is to only train the same muscle group every 72 hours, but it should actually be longer if your training it right. As for getting size, you have to increase the intensity for the muscle to adjust, it will work to add a little size, but not much, hence the reason for pushups not being a bodybuilding exercise.

You shouldn't do them everyday, if you are your aren't doing them correct. With that being said it's perfectly fine to do them a few times per week rotating the 'type' of pushup your doing.
Monday - Regular, Make sure your head to toe alignment is straight, go down slow, don't let your nose touch the floor before your chest. If your belly sags, suck in your belly button to apply resistance to your lower back. Hands should not be above you eye line.
Wednesday - Down Dog(yoga) pushup. Again alignment is essential. Don't worry about your legs being straight on the angle. with your back straight allows your forhead to come down to the floor at a 45 degree angle between your thumbs.
Friday - inverted push up. Get a box, or chair, put your toes on it and try to do the down dogs again. If this is too easy then graduate up to a handstand pushup(inverted push up).

Good luck!
