The number you get is the number of calories you body needs to maintain it's current weight with NO activity at all - just to exist.

You can then use the Harris Benedict Formula to determine how many calories your body needs to maintain it's current weight with YOUR level of activity.

Once you have determined the number of calories your body needs to maintain, you can subtract 1000 for 2 pounds a week loss.

It is true that you need to burn more calories that you eat in order to lose weight, but you have to remember that you are burning calories ALL THE TIME - not just during your workouts.

Also if you tip the balance TOO far... your body will fight back and go into starvation mode. If the calorie shortage is so much that your body thinks there is a famine, it will slow it's metabolism so much that it will make it nearly impossible for you to lose weight.

Yes you burn a certain number of calirres a day. If your burn 2500 calories and you eat only 2000 calories. That is called a negitive calories. If all the food you ate is gone. Your body needs to get its nutrtion from somewhere. So it takes it back from your body.

on paper that is how weight loss works but in the real world it takes more effort than that to maximize fat loss while preserving as much muscle as possible. too many people focus on just cals in vs cals out. the source of nutrients/calories is just as important as the calories that are provided. a diet that is comprised of mainly whole foods will provide much greater results quicker than a diet comprised of mainly processed foods with the exact same caloric intake. there is much truth behind the old saying that "you are what you eat".

yes. you already burn alot of calories just by living (get this number by multiplying your weight by ten). if you burn more calories than you eat, when your body burns the calories you consume, it goes to the fat your have stored already.

Yes, but if your diet consists of a lot of fast foods then it could have harmful effects to the body to have your heart pumping that fast when your arteries are being blocked.
