If you "didn't know" is not an excuse that is going to fly. You obviously do know or you wound not be asking. It would be like dropping him off at the store and when he comes out he tells you to drive off real fast and you do and then the police chase you and when caught you say "I didn't know he was going to rob the store"!

If you are in the same car or building with him and he is in possession of something illegal and it is in plain view or you are with in reach of it... You are toast. Your only defense would to become a witness for the state in exchange for dropped charges.

My question is.... why do you have a boy friend that does anything illegal???? You know its just going to get you into trouble eventually. Set your standards higher... or suffer the consequences.

i would google something like california possession of illegal drugs and/or paraphenalia ? whatever the illegal stuff is.

I think that with the matter of drugs, that if four people are in the car and any illegal drug is found, that all four people get charged and it is the job of the judge to figure out who it belonged to. I am not sure though. It would be best to consult an attorney and not discuss the matter on yahoo.

You very well could. If he stashed it in the car (as opposed to on his person) and does not claim responsibility everyone in the car can be charged for possession. I see it all the time on Cops. If you think he will be an upstanding guy and claim it, you are deluding yourself. I see that all the time on Cops too. Do yourself a huge favor that could very well alter the course of your life for the better: Avoid guys like that. You would be surprised how many guys aren't mixed up in illegal stuff.

In most cases a police officer will charge you both unless it is clearly in his possession and not yours. For example, if drugs are found in his pocket, you probably would not be charged. Drugs in the car, you would both be charged.

Just be warned - guys in that situation will put the blame on anyone to stay out of trouble. I know of a case where the boyfriend put drugs in the girl's purse and swore he didn't know anything about it. Luckily for her, the officer saw the scumbag do it.

Dump the looser and you don't have to worry !

You can bet on it. You could be charged as an accessory. If you are you would go before a court and probably receive some type of sentence. If your a juvenile it could end up as a suspended sentence with a bit of time on probation. Trying to say "you didn't know" won't cut you any slack.

If he gets in serious trouble and you are with him, you could end up serving time.

Hope he's worth it!

Yes. Just watch a few episodes of cops. Guilt by association depending on your own record, the cop on duty, and the judge. Best to clear your life of people who do illegal things.

You already asked this. If they can show you knew, and did not turn him in, you can be prosecuted for aiding and abetting. I am not sure about CA, but in most states, aiding and abetting is and equal charge to the crime itself.
