I'm going away to college this fall and my dad pays child support to my mom. When I come back, I will stay with my friend. Should I get emancipated so I can get the money since my mom won't have any use for it? My tuition is paid for and if I get the money, I will be able to pay for my dorm for the rest of school. I would ask my family but I need to have time to think about it before it gets announced on the loudspeaker

My dad and I have talked to my mom numerous times about her letting me have some of the money for my expenses but she either ignores us or says no. In Missouri, which is where I live, the child support payments can still be paid as long as the child is going to college and will be paid until age 21. Once again, I've tried talking to her numerous times. It doesn't work.

Also, it's not taking from my dad. He is willing to give me the money to help pay for a newer car since mine is over 20 years old and to help with my other expenses. My mother never once offered to buy me gas money when I ran her errands.

One more thing. My dad always pays half of everything big I've ever gotten. He paid half on all of my yearbooks and my senior pictures. He is also paying half of my dorm fees on top of paying child support
