Im interested in getting a tattoo, maybe on my left upper chest?
I was thinking about a kanji symbol, maybe "Family"
the problem is, I dont want to look mental for getting a kanji tattoo, what are peoples opinions on it?
also, I was thinking of a dice tattoo in the same place, but I cant find any good ones, if somebody could maybe help me find either a good dice tattoo, or the CORRECT kanji symbol for family, I would be very gratefull.
on a side note, this is my first tattoo, and I was wondering would on my upper chest hurt? I mean like on the pec.

Generally, tattooing on a muscular part of the body doesn't hurt. It's more "uncomfortable" than anything else. I thought it was more like a spider scrabbling under your skin. It only really hurts where its directly over bone, the spine, ankle etc.
I agree with CrissK about using symbols, remember, that when you get your tattoo it's not easy (or cheap) to get rid of, so make sure it's something you'll want for the rest of your life. I had a friend that had wanted the Chinese symbol for "Faith" tattooed on her neck, turned out it might actually mean "Dog"!!

Can't help you with the Kanji though, sorry!

Please please don't get a kanji unless they're really important to you personally. They're only cool if you're asian, otherwise they're played out "trendy" tattoos. Why not think of a different symbol that means family, like something specific to your family...do you have a coat of arms, a favorite sport you all like to watch, a nickname for your mom/dad, how about "family" in the language of your heritage? there's a million other options to honor your family than with a style of writing that means nothing to you personally. However, if you are asian and you just can't read kanji than I appologize for my rant. As for dice tattoos I'd try looking on bmezine.com if you haven't already...there's pics. of thousands of tattoos on there. Tattoo pain really depends on the person, but generally it's believed that the more "meaty" the area the less pain there will be, if it's a bony area it'll hurt more- but this isn't always the case. Tattoos are survivable though, you can tough through it. Good luck.

I don't think anyone should get tattoos in a langauge they do not speak. So unless you are Japanese or speak Japanese, don't get a kanji tattoo.

I think dice are a little silly, but since I'm not seeing it, you are, that's entirely your call.

And yes, it is going to freaking hurt. It's weird but for me, the ankle tattoos hurt less than the ones on my bicep and my hip.

I think it would be a good tattoo. No one will think you're mental for it. A lot of people have them.
Dice tattoos are tacky, tho. Sorry.
Your tattoo is going to hurt regardless of where you get it. People who say they don't hurt are lying or were on drugs. But it's not that bad. Nothing you can't handle.
