Faith is a valid response. What they're saying is that they don't have an answer because they don't feel like one is necessary. Faith is the suspension of logic and reason, therefore you don't need logic or reason to come to any sort of conclusion. It is extremely difficulty to argue with this kind of person because they don't have much of a grasp on the concept of logic, and they require no facts or evidence to back their points of view.

Faith and belief are often used interchangeably where one word supplies a sufficient replacement for the other and, in fact, neither can effectively support the other. To say that one has faith, meaning confidence in a belief, and therefore he believes is nearly the same as saying one has a belief and therefore he believes... It's just silliness, isn't it. And, to say that one has faith, as in possessing a spiritual belief, and therefore he believes is equally circular in it's reasoning.
I see belief, or faith if you'd like, as being an emotionally derived decision where god and the bible are concerned. Belief isn't an intellectual consideration at all but rather it's a feeling... and unfortunately, not all feelings are factually true.

Its something you know in your heart without a doubt is around you and the world. It's a good feeling of relief you have by knowing you will be protected, guided, and blessed. It's like knowing your dad is there to catch you when you fall even if you can't see him but you sense he is there or hear his voice. When you know you are making your parents proud by doing good things its like a wonderful feeling. It's the same with God only greater.
I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but this is how faith works for me.

The word 'faith' refers to having confidence in the existence of that which cannot be seen.
It is contrary to the scientific method and as such is 'unscientific' and therefore an inappropriate basis for the continuous stream of 'prove it' me too posters here.
Faith is central to spiritual matters of a religious nature which are not subject to the tenets of science -- though there are numerous allusions to scientific concepts in scripture.
Belief in God has it's entire foundation in faith -- and He rewards that faith with blessings in the form of intervention, miracles and charisma ("gifts") beyond the scope of man to comprehend -- among other things.
Being a scientist I can utilize the scientific method appropriately to observe, experiment, formulate a hypothesis and then test it.
Being religious I rely on my confidence in the existence of my God on the basis of scripture, correlated historical writings, the geologic record, and that which I feel in my heart.
I was once an atheist and as vehement a proponent of secular existence and profanity as I've seen in this den of iniquity -- populated by some who are profane baiters and individuals who hold me in contempt -- called the 'Religion and Spirituality' group on Yahoo Answers.
My conversion was an internal change of heart and largely based on what I was made to feel based on the faith which overtook the lost man I was and gave me the stability, focus, and reference of a man of God.
Yes. I have faith and I make no apologies. Matters of faith cannot be judged by the senses by and large. The proofs are there but you must seek them in the minutia. That is precisely what I have done.

In the Bible, the people in the Old Testament and the New Testament were saved the same way. It was by "Faith" in the Lord God of heaven and earth.

Faith is what we can't see but we put our faith in someone
we can't see. The Bible definition is: Faith is the reality of
what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. "
Hey, Jared, God created science and logic. So what the

Faith is being humble enough to believe that a higher power exists and is present in our lives.
One can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God. Therefore, to believe in Him requires faith because you cannot take a picture of God. You cannot measure Him.
He is real in one's heart- one cannot scientifically explain that.

If you had a gun pointed to your head, you would know, very clearly 100%, that you want to live. That's not an intellectual conclusion. That is just raw truth.
There are other things besides the will to live, of which we have clear, 100% knowledge. We call that faith.

Hebrews 11:1 "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld"
Faith is knowing something is real and true even though you can't physically see it.
