My friend has chromes disease and is very frustrated with it. I wish i knew what to say to her to help her feel better but everytime she has to go to the hospital is just makes her feel worse and worse. She feels like she has to give up on her life (not in a suicide kind of way) inorder to deal with chromes. She finds it hard to keep up with her friends and family becasue she is always in the hospital or getting blood transfusions. Any advice on how i can help her?

I have treated this condition many times as a doctor of Naturopathic medicine. Please show her the information I'm enclosing. This is going to help her not experience so much pain and suffering.

As a general rule, the grain and cereal foods at the top of this list make the safest, easiest, and most versatile soluble fiber foundations for your meals and snacks.

Rice, Pasta and noodles, Oatmeal, Barley, Fresh white breads such as French or sourdough (NOT whole wheat or whole grain)* Rice cereals, Flour tortillas, Soy, Corn meal, Potatoes, Carrots, Yams, Sweet potatoes, Turnips, Beets, Squash and pumpkins, Mushrooms, Chestnuts, Avocados (though they do have some fat), Bananas, Applesauce, Mangoes, Papayas (also digestive aids that relieve gas and indigestion)

*Please choose a baked-daily, high quality, preservative-free brand. White bread does not mean Wonder.

you are a good friend to try and help her. Be supportive and always available to listen when she needs someone.

Hi! Chrones disease is very painful and disrupts almost all life styles. If sounds like you are already doing all the right things by being a good supportive friend. Keep it up! You can read more about Chrones on the Net and medicine is making break throughs all the time for new and better treatments. The most important is to show your friend how much you care and will be there to help her. Don't dwell on how BAD things are, but talk about some fun things to take her mind off how unpleasant things are when she is in the hospital. Bring a portable DVD player and books to read to each other and try to keep her mind off her problem. Do each other's make-up and nails. A pedicure would feel great when your stuck in a hospital bed! Wash her hair and try a new style. Little things like this will make her feel better and you too! If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie

I think you mean Crohns disease. It is a brutal disease and can be very painful but it is treatable. It's basically inflamatory bowel disease and can require lots of surgeries as the bowel dies. As sections are removed, lifestyle changes must be made. Eating habits must also change.

I feel for you but the best you can do is comfort her and cheer her up.
