The judging of the best pipzza is based upon individual tastes, but New York pizza is very distinguisable in taste, that does seperate it from the rest. Most people contribute this to the water in New York. The water used in the making of the dough gives it it's advantage. Just like you can't beat a New York Bagel for the same reason. Not sure how or why, but items (pizza dough, bagels ect.) made from New York City water gives it a great taste.

Kevin G is right. Not many people know this, but the tap water in New York City is better than most bottled water. (Maybe it's extra filtered because of all the bodies dumped in the Hudson...lol)
At any rate, YES! New York pizza is fantastic.
There used to be a pizza joint in Westwood, CA called LA Monica's (not sure if it's still there), and they actually 'imported' their dough from Manhattan. I guess it was easier than importing the water. It was the best pizza outside of The City I've ever had.

Come here and judge out for yourself?

This New Yorker doesn't think the pizza anywhere comes close!!

There's lots of good slices but the best of the best are:

Totonno's - Neptune Ave, Coney Island
John's - Bleeker St, West Village
Lombardi's -Mott and Spring, Soho
Patsy's - 116th & 1st, East Harlem

Try them all, they are all great.

I guess it depends on personal preference, but I have always heard the rave that John's Pizza in Manhattan is amazing. I had the opportunity to visit NY this spring and I have to agree that John's Pizza was the best I ever had and it was not the least bit greasy!

of course it is!
but there are many nyc-style pizza shops outside of nyc that are good too :-)
it's all about the dough being made with some of the best public drinking water in the country, straight from the mountains of upstate ny. plus the use of old, actual ITALIAN sauce recipies.
