Their inability to see the harm they are doing and supporting is due to the fact that their sin [of homophobia] has absolute power over them.
Any decent human being upon hearing about a murder of another person would express sadness and sorrow. But to those afflicted with homophobia, it is more important to revile the murder victim. These people remind me of the anti-gay hate church that sends protesters to gay funerals to scream that the deceased is evil and in hell while the grieving family is forced to hear and see this hideous, indecent spectacle.
As I've said before, homophobia is a sin. We know it's a sin, because it results in evil and harm being done to gay people. Christ commanded us to treat others as we want to be treated. Murdering gay people, and overlooking murder as you cast stones at the victims, is not treating others as you want to be treated. These people should be ashamed, but they won't be, because they are controlled by their homophobia. (Bad fruit cannot come from a good tree.)

I probably qualify as what you call a fundamentalist Christian but, I have to say that I am appalled by many of those so called "Christian" responses. Homophobia is not Christlike in any way shape or form and while I don't agree with the lifestyle I also realize that no one including myself has lived a perfect life( with the exception of Christ) and hating someone because you don't agree with them is not Biblical.
I cannot believe all those people that answered really believe that murder is acceptable to God just because the man was a homosexual its ridiculous and they need to go re-read their bibles because when God was giving his people a code to live by, thou shalt not kill was on the list.

It disgusted me to see so many people claiming MURDER was alright because of who was being murdered. I wonder if they realize how many things in the Old Test could be stacked up against them... like, do they wear leather? That's an abomination as leather is skin from a dead animal and prohibited. All football players everywhere should be killed because of this abomination. *Hurls*
This is not an example of spirituality of any kind. It shows where those people truly stand and I wouldn't call them Christians at all, honestly. The word Christian means one who follows Christs teachings.... "Love your enemy"... "Treat others as you want to be treated". Nope, none of those teachings show up in their words, so I would have to say, yes, they are ANTI-Christ because they purposefully go against what he taught.

I am saddened, it is revultiing, but not shocked by the responses and the murder, anyone can claim they killed, "In the name of God" and can go unpunished, look at the Inquisition and Crusades, they killed in the name of God. It is sickening that people can justify murder in a book...but they'll be going to Hell for it...I'm worried about my friends and various family members because of this as well.

Saddened? Yes. Terrified for our country? Absolutely.
Shocked? Sadly, no. I wish I could be shocked by the fact that these "good Christians" actually justified the killing of a man for nothing more than his sexual orientation, but, in the few months I have been here, I have come to realize that nothing is beyond them. Their "sin-o-meter" is very skewed, and very flawed. As long as it is done in the name of their God, it is NOT a sin (you kinda have to ignore the 10 commandments, but hey, they manage this). If it is not done in the name of their God, it is a sin, especially if the commandments speak against it.

It's sad that some sicko would come all the way to my home city to commit such a heinous act, but it's nice to know Houston's gay club scene has such a good reputation (if even this nutbar knew about it).

The fundamentalists, and I won't call them Christians, will mostly end up in Hell, which is the only reason that I don't want to go there.

The compassion of Christ - yer? right - I don't think so.
Their are those for who Christianity is a guide and an inspiration to love and compassion. And their are those who are straight jacketed by the book.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
I don't think that guy read the story of the woman who was caught in adultry and they were going to stone her. Jesus came and said first one with out sin cast the first stone. And everyone left. Then Jesus told her to go and sin no more and she was forgiven.

I don't think you necessarily understood what they were saying in their response to you. It seems most of them agreed that murdering someone was wrong, even one of the paramount No-No's. The man who murdered the gay person was clearly in the wrong; I doubt few would argue with this, even fundies.
