By goody-goody I mean those parents who do not intervene in the affairs of their children... even if they do something bad that may affect adversely on their future…
Yahoo users may kindly tell other visitors… as to which type of parents are better… the ones who want to be favourites of their offspring… at the cost of the future of their kids…
Or those who do not care for popularity and take the desired action…

Goody-goody means that they always want you to do the right thing, and that is the same as being a parent that would forcefully stop you from doing wrong deeds.

It is a parent's job to be a wise teacher to their children. Children don't know what is good for them or for others, so they must be taught. Parents who set these kinds of limits are good parents in my opinion. Parents who let their kids do whatever they want, are not parents at all.

Not sure if one is better than the other, but I think parents are required to set limits for their children, varying the limits depending on the child's age and responsibility, since children often don't know what is safe or unsafe, wrong or right. It's how we teach them.

I know I often though my father was wrong when he did not allow me to do certain things, but the older I got, the smarter he became in my eyes. Now I can see the reasons behind his actions. It helps to explain why the limits are set, but sometimes, to protect the child, there is not time before.

If by goody-goody, you mean they always let you do what you want, they are not good parents. They are abdicating their duty to teach.

I don't know what your definition of "goody goody" is so I can only guess it to mean parents who consistently instruct their children right from wrong. This results in children who make good choices on their own, which should be the goal when raising children.

I think the combination of both is best. Situations need to be handled differently. For example, there was one time when I called my mom a *****. I was slapped across the face for that one. I knew I deserved it and I was sorry for having hurt my mom's feelings no matter how angry I had been with her.

These same parents caught me sneaking out beer. Instead of freaking out, they made sure I wasn't driving or giving it to friends, and then they told me that I had always been a smart kid and that they trusted me to make good decisions.

There were rules beforehand that I knew about from my older sisters. I knew that if I were hauled into the police station, they'd leave me there for as long as the police would allow. If I caused any damage to anything, I'd pay for it myself. And if I wanted to go out on the weekend, I had to have all my chores done first.

There is no such thing as a "time out" or "letting your children express themselves" when they are standing up screaming in a public resturant or running through the restaraunt (when it's anything other than Chuck E Cheese) and through the kitchen or throwing their food everywhere. Honestly. Those people need to show some disipline occasionally. I prefer the ones who would stop you from doing wrong deeds.

Its always best to have the combination of the 2. When you fell to hve a friend then Goody-Goody.
When your walking on the wrong then - forcefully stop you from doing wrong deeds.

The parents are the ones who can teach u what is right and wrong. They are sincere with u and that's final . Then why not listen to them and obey them.
