It is not a good idea to feed human food to your animals at all. As for chocolate, it containes a chemical called theobromine which is toxic to dogs if they ingest enough of it. The actual amount that it will take to harm the dog depends on the size of the dog and the type of chocolate. Some chocolates, such as baking chocolate, cocoa, semisweet, and dark chocolate contain a higher concentration of theobromine.
Typical signs of theobromine intoxication include vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, tremors, seizures and death.
Pay particular attention to the last sign I listed cuz that is one that they don't get over.
It is true that most dogs can eat a little chocolate once in a while and be ok but is it really worth taking the chance?

Chocolate contains something called theobromine, which is poisonous to dogs.
It is not ok to give dogs chocolate, even once in a while. If a dog eats chocolate by mistake, it is possible that it will be all right, especially if it's a large dog that eats a small amount of chocolate. But never, ever, ever give a dog any amount of chocolate on purpose. It's just too risky.

You dont want to give your dog chocolate, like feed it to them as a treat. Parts of the chocolate are really toxic to dogs. I know that my dog has once ate a bag of M&M's, part of a chocolate milkshake and 2 or 3 chocolate chip cookies, she hasnt done anything and shes just fine.

NO, NEVER! You should never allow your pet to eat chocolate of any kind. The chemical in chocolate, theobromine is similar to caffeine (for the same reason pets should not be allowed to sip your coffee, tea or soda) which is toxic to pets, especially dogs.
Cocoa powder is even more dangerous than regular candy-type chocolate.
As much as your pet might like the smell of chocolate, do NOT let him have any! There are doggy safe alternatives that can be found at your local pet store.

dogs are allergic to chocolate. But some of our dogs had chocolate before on accident and they were alright. I wouldn't chance it though because some dogs are more sensitive than other. Dogs are also allergic to tomato vines, garlic, onions and several other ingredients in human food. My youngest dog had seizures last summer because she ate tomato vines. Be careful :)

chocolate is toxic. If you want to feed them something that tastes like chocolate they sell dog treats made with carob. Your dog won't know the difference.
