probably because it is boring to you or too long

try telling your family members or friends to wake you up.

don't put the ac or fan on while you are reading. that just gives you a better right to fall asleep. my brother cant wake up himself so me and my mom have to do A LOT of things like opening his curtain, waiting until he goes to the bathroom(that takes a lot of effort) and many more. but most importantly turn off his ac. no one wants to sleep when it's hot and there's no ac.

I understand your pain - I hated the Odyssey, even though I loved Greek mythology. I never managed to read more than a few pages of the book. You're falling asleep b/c you're bored to death (as you said, it's not your forte). Normally I wouldn't suggest this but ,,,, take a break from reading the book, and look up "The Odyssey" on YahooAnswers. Try reading some of the questions and answers about it. That might help you stay awake, plus you might learn a little about the book. Then try going back to the book and see if it make any better sense (sorry, it never did make sense to me). Go back and forth and you might stay awake better. Good luck, I don't envy you!

I fall asleep by reading every night because it relaxes me and gets my mind off of all my problems.

Maybe it's your posture ? Like, what chair are you sitting on ? Are you slumping ? Is there bad light ? Are you warm ? Is the computer in your bedroom, near your bed ? Change some of these, and see what happens.. ?

Most likely because it's relaxing, and you don't concentrate on problems. It's distracting.

because you are not use to reading and your brain is not processing anything that you read.
