great abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym. reducing the body fat to far below average levels is the ONLY way to get a 6-pack. this can be achieved with no abdominal training but you can't obtain a 6-pack with a bad diet.
to stimulate the metabolism and increase fat burning after exercise you need to exercise at a high level of intensity for 60-80 minutes. your diet ultimately determines the size of the body and the amount of body fat that you have. the cleaner the diet and the more whole foods the greater and faster the physical results there will be from regular exercise.

consultant is right on, but i'm assuming he was using highly technical words for regular joes like you and me. However, "great abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym"
is true. you need to lose body fat around the waist, but you can't choose when losing fat, you'll just have to lose fat period. by eating a clean diet (ie. not junk food, sweets, fast foods, sodas, etc) and exercising more, especially cardio, (ie, running, jogging, a combination of both) you'll be able to lose the fat and your ab muscles will definitely start appearing. don't be discouraged though, it will take time. good luck
