Yep.. sounds like its well worth a trip to the local auto salvage yard for you. Plan a Saturday and hit a couple of them with your tool box in hand.
Collect those parts plus any others that you may have overlooked or want to replace like that cracked tail light or bet trim.
The price will be generally pretty reasonable and its an interesting and different Saturday morning.
happy hunting...

look at the local salvage yard, they usually have an engine that's blown up and they,ll sell you a dip stick for a few bucks, one from a dealer is kind of high, but check out the salvage yards, they should have one to fit it,good luck on it.

if you are talking about the dipstick (as in the part you pull out to check your oil) just hit up a junkyard. but if youre talking about the dipstick tube, get one new at the dealership... theyre not expensive at all. i cant see replacing that with a junkyard part being a great idea. those like to be garbage on the mk3's (along with A LOT of other random crap... ive had problems with mk3's )

If you can't afford to replace your dipstick with a new one from the dealer, I wonder how all of your other p maintaince items are going, like how are your tires, when was your last oil change, do you have insurance,

Scrap yard.
Also look out for Golfs of the same age. The parts are likely to be the same.
