How can I stop harming the earth? I've been convinced by society here in america that I need to drive a huge gas guzzling SUV and have a huge house to flaunt my income but I'm hardly even there because I'm always driving my SUV around conducting business and now this house is eating all this energy and I have to fill up everyday AND now that its hot I have to keep my AC on 65 so it is oh so coll when I come home so it runs even when im not there. BUT help how can I give up such a convenience?

Toyota just anounced testing for plug-in hybrid SUV which are basically electric cars with a gas engine in case of emergency or a long trip. These can be plugged in at home to recharge the batteries.

Then just get a solar power hookup at home. They range around $40,000 for an average size home, but the government also gives incentives.

This is just one solution. The problem is that most Americans and humans in general need incentives to give them a reason to change, and the government and power companies have no reason to offer any incentives that will undermine their bottom line.

72 deg is very comfortable in the summer, raise your thermostat. Also close a few vents and doors to rooms you don't often use. Drive a more efficient vehicle and conduct your business travel as efficiently as you can (plan your routes better). I'm not sure where you live, but do the same in the winter regarding heating, but set the temp at 65 deg.....If you live in an older house, consider replacing windows and re-siding it to get maximum insulation.

If you want a house that's even more awesome, get one with a geothermal heating-cooling system (it'll cut your energy bill significantly), but also, get seperate thermostats for every room. Keep your bedroom and office at 65, but leave the rest of the house warmer.

I run our central air on 77 deg F. and it makes us comfortable. I am retired and trying to get our bills under control. The global warming thing is just some people making there money robbing the poor. Just follow the money. Like how much has Gore made off this scam.

Not having kids will have a much bigger impact on the planet than giving up any of those "convinces". Leave the earth better than you found it.

The best thing you could do would be to promote nuclear power. Nuclear power produces zero greenhouse gases.
