It's really not that small anymore. No malls or anything like that
but some decent restaurants. The schools are OK, but like most cities they do have a drug problem, mainly meth.
It's not too far from the Kern river and lake Isabella, and just two hours from L.A.
It's in the high desert,so winters can be very cold and windy,
and of course the summers are HOT

Ridgecrest is basically a "military" town because of near by China Lake NAS. It's a nice, small town, and yes it does get very hot in the summer, and cold in the winter. It's sorta all by its self with the next town of any size being Mojave, about a 40 minute drive away. If you're into camping, you'll be much closer to the Sierra's and the Kern River areas.

If you want to live in the desert, be away from people, all alone except the town folks, no shopping malls, hot/cold and windy then Ridgecrest is the place for you.
