Why does it ask for people you know?

Are they planning to contact them?

Personally, I've never had any of my friends get a call from my employers.

Employers will usually start calling references once they get around to the second or third interview and need to do background checks. They simply want to confirm that you are who you say you are, that the jobs you've listed are ones you've really worked, and that you don't have a habit of falsifying documentation.

They would normally call up the references from your previous companies or schools. So it's best you start becoming the references' best friends to give you better credits.

they are looking for references from former teachers/ coworkers, etc , not personal - people who tell them what kind of worker you are, how responsible you are, etc
