My dad owns the car that I drive for him. He cannot drive anymore. In order to keep insurance on his car, does he have to maintain a current drivers license? I am on his policy as a licensed driver. We live in Texas.

Interesting question. An insurance company wouldn't insure a person for liability insurance when they aren't legally allowed ot drive, would they?
The best thing to do is to call the insurnace company and explain the situation and ask them what is the best course to take. That way you know you are covered either way. good luck.

No. he can maintain insurance on the car but not be a driver. In fact he would be foolish NOT to maintain insurance since if you have an accident they will go after not only you but him also.

You should, however, talk to your agent and make sure that the company is aware of his status. (Might even save you a few bucks since they don't have to insure HIM... just his car)

here in NC when u do that -have license and the car owner doesn't they issue the driver a fleet vechicle only license which means u can drive a rental car only and that rental from a company not a friend or relative-had one once and got a warrant over it --b***s***

Kayboff:
You better check with your insurance provider. I would say though [ i am not a attorney by anymeans] that since the car is in his name he very well may. Good Luck!!
