Based on what facts? Likely it is based on current growth in automobiles and based on current feul economy increases. However that will not be the trend moving forward.lets assume that it is true... Hybrids are just getting off the ground, and there are electrical car companies such as telsa motors that are making historical advances in fully electrical cars. i dont think fuel will be a issue, because i dont think cars will be using it. Look at cars of 50 years ago. and look at cars of today. and many changes have happened in just the past 5 yes they still use gasoline, but the effeciency levels are stagerling better. . I suspect by 2050, cars will be reliant on a completely differnt type of fuel. and will have intirely different issues that need resolved. The fact that a production electrical car can now go 200 miles with no stop to charge of any kind and without solar support, and looking at the effiecency gains in solar panels over the last 50 years i think it is entirely posible to make a fully electrical car go 300+ miles without stoping and with impressive performance with todays technology. let alone what the next 50 years will bring.
I think a more interesting question would be directed toward air travel. and how that industry is going to deal with fuel needs. bio diesel wont get you to europe.

my car gets EIGHT miles to the gallon. 350 horsepower. It's a Camaro. It's fast. The stereo system is really loud.
I won't have this car in 2050, so it really doesn't matter to me, i live today for today and maybe something will be done tomorrow, as far as i care right now, it doesn't mean anything to me. i am getting ready to turn 30 years old, and i live my life for what it is. i get so sick of hearing about people who cry about us using up all the oil, or PETA, and people wanting to take our guns from us.
My God, leave us be. we've done fine on this earth for thousands of years, and i'm sure we'll be fine for thousands more.
here's more food for thought.. you say the world will come to an end.. well, did you know that every year, the earth moves one mile closer to the sun? so, that means, in about 47 or so million years, the earth will collide with the sun, and BOOM!! there goes life as we may know it.
Live Your Life... Don't try to live others for them.

People said oil was going to run out by 2010 almost fifty years ago. It's going to run out, but it's pointless to worry about it. I can't afford an electric or hybrid car at this point in my life, although I would love one. And a renewable, non-polluting resource is not available to me where I live. Politicians and Companies need to get on the ball before I do.

No one of us knows. Those that do know will not tell us. By the time 2050 gets here, we will not be concerned with oil shortage. Have faith in the human race. We're pretty smart. And our government is even smarter. They will have found a new thing to tax and sell and profit to an even bigger margin.

Isn´t this site for people who ask questions and not just make statements and offensive statements at that. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
