I've tried the autoshapes scribble tool, but it doesn't look right.

Use the Curve tool instead - Autoshapes - Lines - Curve
Click once to insert the starting point and move in the direction you want the first curve, click a second time. Continue to move and click until all the curves you need are drawn. Double-click to finish.
If some of the curves are not quite right click on the Draw button and click on Edit Points. You can click and drag on any section of the curves to correct them. Right-click on the points and you will be able to add/delete, make smooth, straight or corner points. Right-click on part of the line with no point and you will be able to open the curve or delete segments of it.

Try the one called Basic Shapes and in there is a shape called Arcs. It draws a smooth shape. Hope that helps.

Word hasn't had good drawing tools included (I have the 2003), I find it easier to draw things in power point and then cut/paste the drawing into word.

In basic shapes, there is an "Arc". You can try that. It is smooth, and you can adjust it for what kind of curve you want.
