Hello to the Phillipines! It's not only possible but it's been done. You can easily load Rock Salt in place of lead in shotgun shells. The RockSalt will be just a bit abrasive to a shotgun barrel, but most people that would do this don't shoot enough to hurt a modern barrel. The Rock Salt when fired will actually penetrate clothing and the skin underneath. It will "Burn like HADES" when it goes into your skin and it will continue to burn unless melted with large volumes of water or removed individually with medical tweezers or foreceps. I would not suggest trying to shoot anyone faceing you as it could blind or kill. Most people in past history shot others in the lower backs and legs.HIGHLY EFFECTIVE..But in most cases not lethal. In the old U.S history of Moonshining (making illegal spirits/liquor) The Moonshiners used to shoot trespassers that happened upon their "stills" as a warning. It also leaves nasty little scars at the points of entry on your skin so it would be quite obvious later if somebody was to check your back and legs that you had be "salted" recently.......! LOL

In this day and age of civil liability no one in his right mind would load rock salt in a shotgun. If a situation deteriorates to the point that someone has to resort to deadly force, then so be it. But if instead of using deadly force in a justified situation someone blinds, injures, cripples, or maims someone by using something like rock salt rather than real ammo then the aggressor becomes the victim and he can sue the shooter for all he has.
Don't become a victim twice.
Best.

It can be done. Don't do it on your favorite gun.
I have a friend who does it on stray dogs. They live and it runs them away. And the neighbors don't lose their dog.
Have you seen what salt does to cars from up north? It is corrosive.

if you buy rocksalt shells, it shouldnt be a problem, if your loading your OWN shells and putting rocksalt in it then it may damage your barrel...it is painful to be shot with rocksalt, dont try to shoot animals or hunt with rocksalt, it is inhumane, only use it for home defense please

i say it would do numbers to your barrel, depending if it is rifled or not, but it would blow the hell out of someone.
