Depends on what you mean by 'where we are'. If you mean as physical beings living on earth, then that depends on the level of understanding you have. If you are still chasing stuff and vanity, then no, you have to stop doing that to attain serenity. And you have to change a ton of things about you, change all of the negative patterns. One could do that with people poking you with pins all the time, but it's better if you can create some kind of refuge for yourself, some place where you can have some alone time to heal.

Serenity is subjective isn't it 'if we are all in this together'. If I have developed some inner peace is it because it stands against the 'other' not having peace. Good Q and this is a small view forming itself within the Q....( maybe Grace under fire) Metta

The Apostle Paul clearly states in Philippians that we can learn to be content in whatever circumstances we're in. Just consider what Paul went through for the Gospel and it makes things alot easier.
It takes patience, prayer, and the love of Jesus, but it can be done!
Oh, yeh, and the grass is not always greener on the other side!
