i tried to buy a used lexus rx330, which they listed on their website for $26,995. unfortunately, i didn't print it out. when i got there, they said the price was $32,000. i told them of the advertised price on the website, and they said it was wrong. i wasted an hour there and walked off. can they really do this? i hate that scumbag sales rep. how can i get that dealership back. isn't that false advertising or bait and switch? please help.

First of all, is the price still on the website? It could have been an error on their part, or you could have mistaken the price for another car.

Was there a stock number or VIN listed? If there was one, did the car you look at have the same number?

I have not seen the listing. Could the fine print have said something like " Prices include all rebates and $5000 cash or trade. Title and taxes are extra"? Some dealers list prices after an assumed value of the trade. If you do not look closely, you can miss that!

Go somewhere else and buy a car. You will never be happy with any car you get from that dealership, even if they gave you a car free and offered to wash it and fill it with gas every week for ten years! You "hate that scumbag rep".which tells me that you are over reacting!

I do not know who made the error, but I do know that unless you have proof of the advertised price, and proof that it was not an error, you have no recourse!

The question is was it a legitimate mistake or intentionally done something you will never know, I have devoted a full web page on my website about dealer and email scams, had you had a chance to read it you may have made a phone call before wasting an hour of your time. http://www.usedcartips.org/SCAMS.html

If the advertised price is not corrected in 24 hrs contact or if you can find other cars advertised that's low balled contact the BBB and state your complaint it will be on file then should others have similar complaints

Read the fine print at the bottom of the car ad. There may have been only 1 car at that price. That's legal. Usually, there is a stock # listed in the ad for the vehicle. You should have brought the ad with you. I'd have raised hell, and they would give me the car at that price just to get me off their lot.

False advertising and as common as there are cars in the lots. You did the best thing possible. You walked off the lot. If the courts tried to prosecute them for criminal fraud then there would be no room in the courts for anything else.

The only car company that does not play those games is Saturn. However, I dont like any of their cars.

Welcome to the wonderful world of used cars! Now you know. Next time, call them first, get the sales manager if possible, and verify the price and availability of the vehicle. Also, know before you go to the dealership what the vehicle is worth, and what you are willing to pay. Having financing arranged ahead of time with your bank or credit union also helps.

There's usually somewhere on the page stating something that they are not responsible for typos and stuff like that. If they're not willing to budge...move on. Just bring your money else where...their loss...
