Well, I love a traditional cretan dish, is called ntakos. You need a barley rusk.Soak the rusk in water, some people avoid this step and let the rusk soak with the tomato juice, which is poured over it. Then you put tomato, feta cheese , oregano , salt and some red pepper (if u like it spicy). Then pour some olive oil on the top. Its really very tasty and makes your stomach full as if you had a whole dinner. And low calorie too.

Afiyet olsun xxx

(A Turkish friend of mine brought me some sumac, you can put that on top too. )

Bosphorus hun, I just loved your response. With all due respect to my friends, it is so hot and sticky now that I don't feel like eating fish. Just cold and light things.
I'll tell you of a Cypriot favorite: gaynanmış taze böyrülce (boiled fresh black-eyed beans). Dressed in virgin oliveoil and lemon juice.mmmmmmmmm... We just love it in summer, accompanied with canned tuna or sardines. We also boil a small 'balkabağı' (pumpkin???) cut into large slices and eat it with black-eyed beans. It's cold, delicious, light (I mean really dietary), and nourshing.

p.s. thanks for teaching me a new word: purslane (semizotu).

Watermelon and cheese (hellim/halloumi): that's a typical Cypriot summer supper.
