Think that they bailed the British out in WW2.....when the fact is that they didn't enter the war until they knew which side would be the winning one

oh yeah the americans really helped us

sherman tanks....the germans called them tommy-boilers because they blew up quite readily.......and the B******* charged us through the nose for them

The americans refused to offer any protection to the atlantic convoys....and only appeared on this side of the pond when we had made the waters safe for them

And now the world is paying the price for american arrogance.....

That is a very good question, we have only just finished paying off our WW2 loans to the Yanks and here is a fantastic quote from a British general during WW2

"When the RAF flew overhead the Germans ducked, when the Luftwaffe flew overhead the allies ducked, when the Americans flew overhead, EVERYBODY DUCKED"

Because thats what Hollywood has told them.

In fairness without the USA and Russia we would never have stood a chance at beating Hitler long term, but the British contribution in the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic, in the Russian convoys, In north Africa, in the jungles of Burma, and in the D-day landings onwards was enormous in terms of contribution.

Unfotunately people these days learn their history from films and if you believe Hollywood every war was totally won by square jawed boys from Texas with perfect teeth and guns which never need re-loading.

Saul Meiser - The UK had several victories over the Japanese actually after the turning points of Imphal and Kohima and then a load as we chased them out of Burma. so you are wrong on that point. Read up on the 14th army, General slim, or the Chindits. And before you come up with Merrils Marauders they were a side show in a bloody war of attrition which lasted nearly five years.

Secondly Germany was divided between the U.S, USSR, UK, and France, and there are still UK bases in Germany where we have maintained a front line defence since 1945. This is the BAOR (British Army on the Rhine) which during the cold war was the first line of defence against any Russain invasion whose job was to hold until re-inforced by the U.s and the rest of NATO.

If you are a serving Marine I'm stunned that you know so little about your only allies.

Why all this back biting. Yes the US came in after Pearl Harbour and yes we Brits had done most of the hard work, but lets not forget the Likes of Dunkirk, if it hadn't been for the Americans getting involved and helping us, we would not have WON the bloody war, so lets stop having ago at each other. The war has been over for 62 years, its history, the sooner everyone stops going on about it the sooner old wounds can be healed and the bitterness forgotten. We all drive German and Japanese cars on both sides of the Atlantic but some people still hate them for what they did. The French stabbed us in the back within days of the end of the war, but no-one goes on and on and on about them. Iwas born during the war, but I would bet good money that most of the accusers Fathers werne't even born in those times, so why have they actually got yo complain about???????

Japan attacked the United States.
Germany attacked England.

The U.S. had many victories over Germany.
The U.K. did not have victories over Japan.

The big boys, U.S. and Russia, split Germany. The U.S. Still has military bases on Germany today, England does not.

"certainly better to be an American rather than a German protectorate, " -- Winston Churchill

I think it is also important to say that the war may have brought the two countries closer together and helped form a stronger bond accross the Atlantic. Here is a neat story about Truman and Churchill after the war.

The fact of the matter is, Brittain did an amazing job standing on it's own for the longest time. They alone kept the Nazi's from controlling all of western Europe until 1944. The US was always on the allied side however. Pearl Harbor being attacked in 1941 by the Japanese, who were allied with Italy and Germany makes that pretty obvious. The bailing out part came when America was able to out produce the Axis powers with it's enormous industrial input of war materials, ie. Tanks , planes, guns, ect... and not to mention a huge influx of fresh troops. The Brits would never have been able to mount an offensive like D-Day without the American involvement. So, in a sense, America did bail the Brits out of a bad situation, but the Brits are to be commended for the where with all to hang in there against Germany until The US save their Butts from speaking German.

We didnt join until we knew what side was winning! We joined the war because Japan bombed Pearl harbor. The fact is the U.S. didnt bail out the British but we did help out alot. Considering we were fighting two fronts one in Europe and one in Asia we did pretty well.

Yes, it does make you laugh doesn't it and to be honest I don't think they would have bothered if it wasn't for pearl habour. They make you laugh as we have been there fighting side by side with them ever since. I would like to thank the American for coming into the war, but you need to remember that we had already worked very hard on WW1 and the many years of WW2.

Still it has built a relationship that should never be broken between to great nations.

You and the Russian were winning B/S many Americans were upset that we focused our attn on Europe and not the pacific Who was the commenter of all the troops in Europe a yank when you tried to invade the continent on you own and found your self's on row boats You can twist it all you want you little gas bag we Yanks know the truth

Winning side? That would have been the soviets.

And I don't think they entered the war by choice when the time was opportune. They were attacked, I seem to recall, in some island place in Pacific... Maybe you've heard of it?

And that Adolf-dude declared war, too, silly bugger. I really can't see the british alone mounting a succesfull invasion of mainland Europe... Nor the Germans ever doing their Seelöwe-plan, invasion of the British Isles. A stalemate, as they say.

Hoho, ahh love to see the limey Berks claiming they could have survived without US.

You are without a Doubt the most deadbeat country on the planet. Even France has a better record of financial responsibility.

Overrun with Chav scum, Paki's plotting to kill you all.

We entered the War when we were attacked.

Talk about re-writing history. Yours is the worst-case example. The US entered on 12-7-41, the Day of Infamy. The Germans were winning everything at that time. The Japanese had taken over much of the Pacific and almost dealt a death blow to the US. London was being bombed into rubble piles.
It took almost four years and the loss of millions of lives before victory was reached. And the US knew the outcome four years in advance? I think you are only fooling yourself.
