In Hebrews Paul writes about Melchisedec.

How did Paul know so much about him? Where did he get his information from?

... I'm interested to know your thoughts on Melchisedec.

thanks

Many thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

The book of Hebrews was originally called, "The epistle of Paul to the Hebrews"... I too have read about Barbabas and Apollos being the author. I really don't want to distract from my real question.

Regardless of the author, he writes expertly on Melchisedic.

Gamaliel was the leading theologian of the time (which Paul studied under). Could this be an answer?

... and yes, I too belief that the Bible is God inspired.

again, thank-you I took forward to your reply.

As an Apostle of the Lord, Paul was ordained to the office of the higher priesthood that is named the Melchizedek Priesthood. It is obvious with that calling that Paul knew exactly that Melchizedek had been a high priest, the King of Salem before it was named Jerusalem, and had brought peace to the land.

This higher priesthood of the Lord is eternal, without beginning, without end, which the scriptures mean when referring to Melchizedek the high priest. This priesthood was named after this high priest so that it wouldn't be commonly referred to its actual identification as the priesthood after the Order of the Son of God.

Paul was born a Jew and trained to be a Pharisee, a strict observer of Jewish law. He was "more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers." (Galations 1:14) The pharisees studied scripture and held the traditions of the elders. (Mark 7:3) The story of Melchizedec is in Genesis 14:18-20 so he would have known about it from there. Also, the Pharisees boasted their descent from Abraham so would have had that knowledge especially.

Paul may not have been the author of Hebrews....we really don't know who wrote that particular letter

And remember....all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. That's how he would have known.

Do you think Moses was there at the creation? God inspired him to write what he wrote in Genesis

Paul was one of the best educated men in the New Testament. He spoke at least three languages fluently, and studied the law and the prophets, under some of the best teachers.
