my poor english bulldog Julian was pretty much infested with fleas. he NEVER goes outside besides to use the bathroom. i had no idea he had them until this past weekend. i immediately put him in the tub and washed him and spent an hour picking the fleas off and drowning them down the drain. i got 85% of the fleas off of him. now i need to know how to keep them off. what is the best way to keep him "flea clear"? does flea dip work? what about the flea bombs for my house?

Frontline plus works the best in my opinion. And if you have them in your house try muleteam borax powder all over the carpets. It will kill them. You buy it in the laundry section of the store for about two dollars a box. I use four boxes a year just to keep my carpets covered.

There a several steps to get your house flea free.

1) take your dog to get a flea dip
2) while out set a flea bomb to kill any fleas or their eggs that are still in carpet/furniture/etc. ( this must be done the same day you get the flea dip or at least prior to you bring the dog home otherwise will be ineffective)
3) use some sort of flea medication for your dog ( at the min for the summer months if not year round. Depends on where you live, the more warm months the longer you should use the flea medication.) - I would reccomend frontline plus, or advatage, both work for flea and ticks.

Good luck.

Here is what needs to be done. Flea eggs can stay dormant for many, many years in carpet. I am not big on flea dips. I do like Frontline. (I have had better luck wiht that than Advantage). You use it once a month. It is easy to admnister. You will need to flea bomb your house. Make you follow the directions. Do it during a time that you and your dog will be out of the house for a few hours. This should take care of any problems. Good luck.

Ok well he may have got it from another dog, and when he uses the restroom outside he may have picked them up. Go to a farm store, feed store something along that line...and get Frontline! My boyfriend and I have 2 dogs and a cat. Dogs picked up fleas somewhere, and we went and got frontline and used it. I kid you not, they were all gone in like a day. IT is the best ever!!! You can almost see them jumping off. Now at Wal mart they have flea cleaner for carpets. That works well too, its in a tan bottle...smells like Oranges. Just do the area witch he is all the time. The Frontline is a lil expensive, but works like a carm I promise!!!

Good luck!

P.S Make sure to wash his collar!

Ok, you first need to you a product on your dog to kill the current fleas and keep them off the dog going forward. There is product that you can put on the back of the dogs neck every month that will do this.

Next step, take your dog out for day and flea bomb your house!

You could try a flea collar... but I've found that using Sentinel works the best. You can get it at your vet. It prevents heartworm, roundworm and whipworm infections controls fleas by preventing the growth of flea eggs. It doesn't kill fleas themselves, but it prevents your dog from having a flea problem. It comes in flavored tablets and your dog will love taking it once a month.

You're gonna need to do both. She needs a flea dip and the flea bomb is going to be good for the family not to get exposed.after the dip I would reccomend Frontline. it's expensive but it works the best out of everything i've tried. Youo can call 1800 petmeds and get it cheap and delivered to your home.

They make a really cool flea control medicine. you just put it on their skin near the top of the back once a month. it kills fleas when they get on them. washing his bedding will help keep them off of you. treating your yard is always an option as well.

ortho 7 dust, can buy at home depot. put down before you go to bed at night , vacuum in the morning, do this once a week for 4 weeks, flea eggs hatch anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks depending on the conditions, temperature, etc. you can leave the dust under your beds and couch the whole time, also this can be directly applied to dogs and cats( not babies though) a 5lb. bag is under $10.00
