Are you asking because you're interested in buying or owning a bird? Or just out of curiositys sake?
I love Macaws, but I personally wouldnt own one because of the amount of attention they need.
A lot of people like finches because they're small and most of them have a pretty song. But they're incapable of being tamed or handled. Parakeets, once trained, can be great. Most pet stores don't interact too much with their parakeets and they do have the tendency to bite, but with daily interaction and persistent handling, they calm nicely and make great pets. Cockatiels are another favorite. The males can learn to talk and they are also very easily trained. They can mimic whistles and noises and really are alot of fun. Conures and quakers have the tendency to be very loud, especially sun conures. Keep in mind, the larger the bird, in general, the more time and attention they require. A lot of the larger parrots require at least 6 hours of daily interaction so they don't develop bad habits like biting or feather plucking.
Birds are great. I have 2 parakeets and 2 cockatiels and they're both VERY entertaining, to say the least =-]

'Cabrera's.' Not too brightly coloured, intelligent and with an aptitude for dealing with unconventional situations that other creatures might dismiss out of hand. Seemingly sees puzzles as something to be worked through.
