The question is a topic that i have to do a talk on for a group of teenagers. I'm struggling with what to fill the talk with. Any help much appreciated.

I know that there is no definitive answer to this and that it is by faith and what we read in the bible. I think in order to cover it i need to look at what is prayer? why is it important that god hears us? and then how do we know he hears us? I think the only way we know for definite that god hears us is when he answers the prayer, and i think i'll spend a bit of time looking at how he answers prayer.

Most people tend to pray for things that they want instead of things that they need

Sometimes we just have to let things run the course that God wants them too.

I have prayed for a loved one to live, and I prayed religiously for days, in my spare time and before I closed my eyes at night, the person did not get better, so then I prayed to God "Your will will be done" and the person got out of the hospital and is alive and well to this day

We need to learn not to be selfish when we pray and to let God's will be done

For someone that does not know God....I would suggest first telling them of prayers that have been answered. If you can give personal stories that is the best. I would give them simple steps to really getting answers to prayer. Some ideas below. Then, I would challenge them to pray for things they know is within the will of God and keep track of their answers. Tell them a specific day you would like to hear about their answers. One thing I have learned is that when you are in a crisis...and turn to God...you really mean well, and you promise Him things. Then, later, when the crises is over, you forget what you promised. You don't even pay attention to His answer, and you forget to thank Him. It helps to keep a record of answers to build your faith. The next time you have a problem you can look back and remember what He has done for you. Hope this helps.

God hears all prayers, But His plan is His plan and most of the time we don't know how or when He will answer. I was a youth leader for seven years and I had to constantly point out that the only prayers I wanted to hear were ones that would give God the glory. I got a lot of prayer request for things, test scores and football games. this is a hard concept at best for most youth but we kept a log of prayers for six months to see how those prayers were answered and most all the serious ones were worked out for the glory of God. But it does take time to see this happen. Jesus said I will never leave you or forsake you, If He is always with us, he hears and knows everything about us our good thoughts and the bad. You also need to go to him with pure intentions, If me as a mere person got tired of hearing silly prayers then how do you think God feels, To get good grades you work for them and to get good answers form God you work for them. Tell them to sit back quietly and see what happens go to a quiet place and be alone with God he wants our attention more than we seem to want His. Good luck and God bless the good works you have been chosen to do.

prayer is communicating with God. people often Pray to ask of God. It is importat that God hears us, just as it is important that you hear me when I am talking to you. You know God hears you when he answers your prayer, either audibly or spiritually or just physically. If you don't believe he's listening, then only by Grace will he answer you. However if you remember you are talking to The, VERY REAL, Almighty God, He will answer your prayer. He dosn't always do it when you want him to, and sometimes he answers immediately. If you have faith and don't be dissuaded from believing He will answer your prayer, he will indeed answer you. I am a witness to this matter. I pray daily. Communication in my relationship with God is the only way to be in tune with his Spirit. Prayer, and listeing after you pray are both very important. You must pray in Spirit and in truth. God knows your heart, and he will do what is best for you. When he answers your prayer, you should give all Glory to God.

If we believe in God, we believe He exists and He is God, omnipresent, omnipotent and eternal. So, if we pray to God, we do so because we believe Him to be all these things. Therefore we know He hears us because He is God. I guess, people question whether He actually listens to us, i.e. whether He does what we ask Him to do for us. A prayer is our personal line to God. There are three things we usually do through prayer. We give thanks and praise,we ask for forgiveness, and we ask for mercy(or the things we wish). Prayer is more effective when we trust ourselves in the mercy of God with as much a sincere heart as we can muster. That is to say, we have specific needs and desires and God knows better than us what we really need and what is best for us. So, although we sometimes pray for things that do not seem to happen when we want them too or at all, it is not that He does not hear us or does not see our need, it is He knows when it is best or indeed whether it is better to grant us our heart´s desire or not. We should pray He give us more faith in Him, and insist on praying all we can.

The Bible does give a definite answer through the words of Jesus Christ who gave us the prayer "Our Father". Jesus Christ also said that like a man will not give his child something bad, God is not going to give bad things to His children who ask for good things. Likewise, He will not be deaf to the people who pray to Him day and night. And lastly, there was the parable of the widow and the judge, the analogy of the door we have to knock on, etc. I think it is made very clear prayers are heard. As our Father though, He knows best when, how and whether to give us what we ask..

Prayer is asking God to intervene by His grace into the situations we put before HIm. God hears us because we are His children. He answers our prayers according His will which we know that it is best for us (1 John 5:14). We also know that that all the promises of God are yes and amen in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). God by His Holy Spirit lives inside us so He can hear us pray all the time. I believe that one of the most powerful way to pray is in the Spirit where the Spirit can help us to pray for all things to work together for our good (Romans 8:26-28; Ephesians 6:18). If you can hear God's voice you will hear His answer to your prayer if He so desires to let you know (John 10:27).

I believe he always hears us, just are our prays according to his will? If not, you might say those prays were not heard for your own fancy.
Once I was sick with flu or something and my stomach area hurt very badly. One day I tried to walk to the batroom and could not. I crawelled to the bathroom and did my business.
Later that day, I read in the Bible that sin is realated to sickness, and prayed to get well. About four hours later, I could walk again and the sickness soon left me. Glory be to God.
