What does this mean to you: We should not only read the Bible but also act on what we read?

As you can already SEE, Rae, there are TWO views on this. Some read it and see ONLY the negative, bad things in it while others read it and see ONLY the good things. The REST of us see it for what it TRULY is. Just another Holy Book that tries to teach it's followers how to live their daily lives. Too many use it as a weapon to berate and bash those who do not accept it and it's a crying Shame too, because there ARE a lot of good positive things to be found in there, just as with ANY other "Holy" book. We should obey and act on the word we know through reading or hearing:

Matt 7:24,25 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to be a wise man who build his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat on the house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Follow the moral path that Jesus put forth.

Also, in regards to study, you can compare what you're being taught against scripture. To see if it holds up or not.
