There are huge problems with gangs on the Gold Coast. The bikers run Surfers after dark. Very seedy place after 10 @ night.

There are gangs on the Gold Coast? First I've heard of it. If there are gangs they are neither very big nor very noticeable. There could be pensioner gangs of retired Victorians and I would expect some schoolie gangs during schoolies but that would be about it.

It is a safe, comfortable place. There are lots of young kids in their cars, but stay out of their way and they'll stay out of yours. I was often alone at night in the GC and felt perfectly safe.
