How soon is the expression used to ask "when?"
If for example we have one week, 7 days that is, and today is Monday, and I ask you "How soon are you going to play basketball?" and you say "today" then it's REALLY soon. But if you say "on Saturday" then it isn't that soon....
Got it?
And "now" is as soon as possible!!!!!
=)

It means how long from now; when.

Example: you go into a shop to have a fresh battery put into you watch. You ask "How soon can you do it?" which gives the impression that you want it as quickly as possible; if you ask "When can you do it?" the impression is that they can do it when convenient to them and that there is no hurry.

Hope this helps.
