my mom had surgery last weekend for a perforated bowel and after just a week the staples were removed and tonite theres some leakage like water and a tad bit of blood can anyone tell me if thats normal so i can get her to stop freakin about it

my dad has a stoma,,it leeked,,when it kept on & on we checked w/the dr. who sent a health care worker out to clean it out...nothing to big of a deal,,but there is some minor leakage,,is normal..i'd keep an eye on it..watch out if it turns red, or if the leakage becomes a different color or clarity , but i think your talkin about normal leakage......

It is normal for any cut through the skin to produce a leakage of puss for a while. The blood has materials in it that help clot the wound, and to help promote healing. The body tends to produce an excess of blood plasma and platelets for the area around the wound, and causes a slight pressure which leaks through the scab from time to time. I would say, nothing to worry about.

Yes, sometimes oozing (the bit of watery and bloodish type discharge) can occur from an incision but yes, it's a good idea for your mom to get in touch with her doctor to see what they say as well.
