This is a pic of my ikea bed.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89838963

I desperately need to store my excess stuff like suitcases etc under the bed and outta sight.. But how do i raise my bed since its an odd shape with no legs., just these heavy boards.
I read on yahoo answers that cinder blocks work.. Do they really? Are they safe and sturdy raisers?
What kind do i need? How many do i need? Where do i buy them?

Thank you for all your answers so far..
I need to raise my bed about 4 to 6 inches i guess.. since all my suitcases are currently looking ugly stacked in a corner of the room.
Also do i need cinder blocks or concrete? And where do i buy them> And what sizes are they available in? Which should i buy?

How high do you need to raise your bed? Judging from the picture, I would say a 2x4 under each end would work the best. You could always get a thicker board, or use more than one, if you wanted it higher. I think cinder blocks will look a little strange with that bed.

Sure, cinder blocks would be a safe & sturdy riser for your bed, but concrete blocks would be a better bet.

Purchase them at a home improvement or garden store.

You might want to consider covering them... with paint, fabric or even plywood, stained to match your bed frame color, just to avoid the "starving student" look.

To figure how many blocks to purchase, measure your head & footboard's length and buy as many as you'll need to support the frame along it's length. Concrete blocks' nominal sizes are 8" x 16" (actually, they're 3/8" smaller than their nominal size... a MORTARED concrete block will be 8" x 16" w/ the grout line.

If the number of blocks is uneven, you can use 1-2 blocks LESS than the entire length and have a couple of inches of space between each block without adversly affecting the amount of support.

Hope this helps,

I think cinder blocks would work, but it won't look very nice. Maybe go back to Ikea and ask them because i know that they sell raiser for beds. Good luck.

There are actually bed risers available and they would look a lot better than cinder blocks. Check with furniture stores, Linens n Things, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.

Yes you can use cinder blocks...they can even be painted first to match your decor. Use as many as you need until you reach the desired height. In addition to using them in the four corners, I would also put them in the four centers of the frame. For a nice finish, use a long dust-ruffle so you won't see what is under the bed.
