Today is my first day smoke free....
i am 21, and have been a smoker of about 10 a day for approx 6 years, however that 10 a day increased dramatically over the weekends when it could go up to anything along 30-40 a night.
Are there any other ex smokers out there that can let me know when the cough starts and roughly how long the nicotine and tar stays in the lungs / body.
Also if i have any other nasty little suprises to come!
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks xx

Hun have a read of this:
http://www.ash.org.uk/html/factsheets/html/fact11.html
Its all about what happens to you when you give up smoking, fact sheets and even a break down of what its going to be like for you.
No pressure but if you stick to it think how much money you will save and more importantly how much extra time you will have with our children
Ohhh god I'm gonna be going through the mill for the next couple of months. However does this mean i can sell the ciggies in my car?
Ohh regards that narrow minded fool who made those nasty comments. Keep your brain cell's to your self, you need them more than we do. If we wanted to hear a narrow minded fool like yourself we would have posted a question like "who has no friends and self esteem issues" So go beat it!
Good luck hunny!
Love ya

Up to a year max.
Nasty surprises: the pub when the clutching hand comes out ( this means beer garden) I had a few dreams that I was about to light up and woke just before the first drag. As time goes on it gets easier and easier but my crisis time was three and 6 months after i gave up, both crises passed when I moved away from the situation. Your biggest problem is smoking friends who think it is funny to make sure that you get a full blast of their cigar/pipe/*** smoke
Keep at it it gets easier after the first few days and just think what you will do with the money saved when things get hard
Oh! The just one won't do you any harm will 'cos you start from scretch

Nicotine stays in the body for 48 hours, thats all.
I smoked for 40 years and gave up 9 months ago,Ive never had a cough since, however I have put some weight on,thats what I will deal with next.
Keep it up,you wont have to stand in the freezing cold in the winter now smoking.

We are all different, you actually started now and will continue so long as you stop smoking.
The amount of time you have been smoking you indicate you might not have that much of a problem.
Find something as a placebo to use (carrot sticks, etc). Try adding in a walking exercise to get the lungs working, just don't overdo it.
The stronger the dependence and time and usage can affect the duration of the withdraws. Just take charge of yourself and avoid the desire to eat more.

Good for you to quit smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I smoked for 20 years (one to two packs a day) and quit cold turkey 5 years ago. I kept toothpicks with me at all times and that is what I chewed on until I got used to not having something in my hand or mouth. I also did not gain any weight because instead of eating I chewed on toothpicks and drank tons of water.
It is still hard!!!!!! I still crave them once in a while, that will never go away. Fight the craving!!!!!!!! It gets less and less as time goes on.
I never coughed or any other nasties after I quit. Doctor said my lungs were almost healthy after one year (your's should not take as long).
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares if the tar never comes out? Who cares if it comes out over a period of 6 years? Serves you right anyway. You know you deserve it; don't you?
